'Tabletop', an earlier series, followed my traditional still lifes and gave me a visual vocabulary that I have continued to work with.
This series began with a confined space, the tabletop. Looking for a balance and presence within the space, I divided it into shape and color, using objects from everyday life.
Within this context, the objects did not always have a literal meaning. The saturated transparent color, concentrated use of pattern, slightly flattened perspective, and strong shadow or black ground heightened the overall feeling.
